I’m a middle aged Welshman from the valleys who cares passionately about the future of the planet and humanity in general. I am currently not working (having been made redundant twice last year) but have previously had two careers, firstly in IT as a Network Designer for blue chip companies and then for the last 10 years working in the voluntary sector providing advice and guidance to socio-economically excluded individuals, latterly through the environmental charity BTCV.
I am heavily involved in a start-up Social Enterprise providing free training to sufferers of mental health conditions, on a voluntary basis at the moment.
The Arctic campaign is the line in the sand as far as I’m concerned; we must stop the exploitation by Big Oil. I have a unique insight into the Oil industry, as I have a sibling working in a senior position in one of the companies used as sub-contractors. I have been working on his opinions for a couple of years and he agrees that there should be an immediate moratorium on drilling in the Arctic.
I believe that I can get useful information for Greenpeace to utilise within our campaigns and would welcome the opportunity to highlight the greed and drive for profit motivating these companies to a wider audience, despite their insistence that they have become ‘green, cuddly and responsible’.
I think the biggest challenge facing Greenpeace today is to mobilise the younger generation who have (in general) become disengaged from politics and making their voice heard.
