REACTION: Audi chief exec arrested over dieselgate

Publication date: 18th June 2018

In response to the arrest of Audi chief executive Rupert Stadler in relation to parent company Volkswagen’s diesel emissions scandal, Paul Morozzo, clean air campaigner at Greenpeace said:

“VW Group’s cheating has increased pollution on our streets resulting in serious harm to people’s health, so it is right that those people responsible are hauled before the criminal courts.

“But even while criminal cases are brought, diesel cars that are pumping out dangerous levels of pollution are still being sold to the public. That’s the real scandal here.

“Our towns and cities are choked with diesel pollution and its causing a public health emergency. Governments must get diesel off our roads fast, and VW Group has an ethical responsibility to end diesel production, and take the lead on transforming the whole industry fully to electric vehicles.”
