Govt votes against saving bees – and loses

Publication date: 29th April 2013

The UK has voted in Brussels against banning pesticides known to harm bees. However a majority vote for the ban means it will go ahead despite the UK’s position.

Greenpeace’s Chief Scientist Dr Doug Parr said:

“By not supporting the ban, Owen Paterson has exposed the UK Government as being in the pocket of big chemical companies and the industrial farming lobby.

“Government policy should be evidence-based and the evidence in this case is clear– these pesticides are badly affecting bees. That Mr Paterson chose to ignore it does not bode well.”
