Over 150,000 stand with the people of Lancashire in opposing fracking

Campaigners from Lancashire will today be joined by Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth to deliver a 150,000-strong petition calling on the Government to respect Lancashire’s decision to reject fracking.

Local campaigning groups Frack Free Lancashire, Preston New Road Action Group and Roseacre Awareness Group will also be joined by Lancaster and Fleetwood MP Cat Smith, who says fracking has no “democratic mandate” in Lancashire, following the local council’s decision to prohibit the controversial practice.

On Wednesday, Lancashire County Council will be deciding whether to approve Cuadrilla’s plans to frack at sites in Lancashire. On the eve of their decision, hundreds of us from across Lancashire will gather outside the council offices in Preston to tell the council to keep fracking out of Lancashire.

If there was a Guiness Book of Records for the most absurd rulings ever issued, the UK advertising watchdog's decision to ban a Greenpeace anti-fracking ad would surely be given pride of place in the 2015 edition.

Over a hundred people including Bianca Jagger, Chair of The Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation, and residents from affected communities are expected to join a Westminster rally calling for an immediate fracking moratorium on the day of a crunch vote in the Commons on Monday.
