Coal: the Kingsnorth Six on trial
On Monday, six brave Greenpeace souls will be appearing at Maidstone Crown Court for the start of a trial centring around Kingsnorth, coal and climate change.
In October last year, they took a personal stand to protect the environment and climbed to the top of the smokestack at Kingsnorth coal-fired power station in Kent. Now, the Kingsnorth Six are being prosecuted for criminal damage and trespass.
Are John West still in denial?
We already know that John West's website contains plenty of corporate puffery. After all, this is the company that claims to "only purchase fish which is caught with no harm to the marine environment" but which came a dismal last in our sustainability league table of tinned tuna brands. And their response to our criticism? Rather than tackling the issues, John West have opted for total denial.
Podcast: Giving coal the boot
For the latest edition of our podcast, we took a trip to Climate Camp to meet the happy campers and get a different point of view on the coal controversy from the National Union of Mineworkers.
