Over and out from Kingsnorth
Posted by bex on 10 October 2007.
Phew, what a couple of days - there are lots of exhausted (not to mention dust covered) faces in the office today.
On Monday morning, we took over Kingsnorth coal fired power plant to say no to a new coal rush in the UK, and yes to a sane, clean energy future. That evening, E.ON served an injunction and the people locked onto the conveyor belt were arrested and taken into custody. Meanwhile, the climbers on the chimney began painting a message to Gordon, going strong until the light failed them.
On Tuesday, the chimney team were forced to take the long climb down, into the arms of the Kent constabulary. On Tuesday evening, most people were released, although four people spent the night in custody.
Those four have just walked into the office, somewhat heavy eyed and coal-covered, to a heroes' welcome (that nine hour chimney climb alone merited it).
So - apart from one last gem we hope to have for you tomorrow - that's it from Kingsnorth for now, although this certainly isn't the last you'll hear on the matter from us. A big thank you to everyone who's emailed Gordon Brown - and if you haven't yet, you can do it here. Thanks also for all the comments, emails and support.
And, if you'd like to get updates when we take action again in future, make sure you sign up to our ebulletin (and make us your friend on Facebook too, while you're at it). Over and out.
