Glastonbury - highlights so far
Posted by rebeccas on 23 June 2007.
My highlights as ever are catching up with old friends and the glimpses of lunacy: kids playing badmington and ping pong among a teepee field while the grown-ups mudwrestled happily. Someone adopting the "I Count - We Can Stop Climate Chaos" message so enthusiastically he was last seen hugging his bicycle. The band that fused that difficult line between Jewish ska and barn dance funk (it sounds so good!), and secret dance clubs hidden behind innocent-looking shop stalls. And enjoying quality time with friends (although not enough - sorry to those I've not found yet or lost!).
My latest obsession is The Cat Empire: if I had my way they would be playing every stage, all of the time, at every festival, always, but I made do with their storming set at the Avalon stage yesterday. Bjork's set was breathtaking. If Faithless, The Cure and Alabama 3 played too my life would be complete, but I'm not complaining (just dreaming!).
There have been a few mishaps - someone "borrowed" part of my tent, getting wristbands sorted took eight hours and don't even get me started on mobile phones. But the weather's the best it has been for any of my five Glastonburys, I'm surrounded by friends new and old and couldn't be happier.
Rochelle (our backstage blagger blogger at Glastonbury) wants to thank all her friends for putting up with her harassing them into coming along to the November 4 demo against climate chaos (thereby securing the Glastonbury passes!). She works with international human rights and environmental NGOs with a particular focus on the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and the Caucasus. She loves music, food, dancing, books and travel, but currently aspires to nothing more than being one of those people at festivals with the right camping gear and decorative wellies.
